By prong setting the stone is hold in place by prongs (round wire, rectangular wire) on his widest point. Depend of stone minimum 3 prong (pear shape). Most other shape minimum 4 prong or more depend on size of stone. With this setting all sides are open and visible.(good cutting of gemstone required). By emerald cut stone and for protection the corners are covered, by rectangular wire. The majority of stones cut to standard size and shape are set in this traditional setting. |
