Tanzanite is the violet blue variety of the gemstone zoisite. It was found in Tanzania in 1967. Tiffany's in New York first gave this stone the name tanzanite. To date there are no reports that tanzanite has been found in any other locations. Most rough tanzanite is brown, but when heated at a temperature of 700 Celsius, its color will change to a beautiful violet or dark blue. Tanzanite is considered to be the most popular of violet blue gemstones.
