 Sotheby's Features Fancy Coloured Diamonds in Magnificent Jewels Auction
 
   
   
   
       
 
Sotheby's upcoming Magnificent Jewels auction in New York on December 11 will feature an excellent selection of natural fancy coloured diamonds. Noteworthy among these is an elegant and extraordinarity rare fancy coloured diamond pendant, which features a green-blue biolette weighing 8.81 cts. That is accompanied by a Gemological Institute of America (GIA) report and a special letter that GIA reserves for the rarest and most interesting of diamonds stating that it "not only falls into the most unusual colour grades for natural colour diamonds, but its physical properties add even more to its mystique." The reserve price for this piece, which also includes a light blue pear shaped diamond and round brilliant fancy grayish blue as well as a fancy blue marquise shaped diamond is between USD800,000 - 1,200,000.

Simple set in platinum with a blue-tinted pear-shaped diamond weighing approximately 0.35 carat atop a pear-shaped light blue diamond weight 1.22 carats, supporting a round brilliant fancy grayish blue diamond weighing 1.46 carats and a marquise-shaped fancy blue diamond weighing 1.44 carats, terminating in a fancy green-blue briolette diamond weighing 8.81 carats, joined by small baguette diamond links and completed by a fine platinum chain.

The pendants set with 2 pear-shaped emeralds weighing 2.85 and 3.16 carats, bordered and surmounted by clusters of 18 marquise-shaped and 14 pear-shapes diamonds weighing approximately 5.00 carats, mounted in platinum and gold. Accompanied by AGL reports nos. CS 36499 and CS 36500 stating that the emeralds are of Colombian origin; evidence of faint clarity enhancement (oil type treatment/ Canadian balsam).

And accompanied by a GIA certificate stating that the radiant cut diamond's predominant colour is purple, the stone is undoubtedly one of the rarer diamonds to be seen. Sotheby's has not published its reserve price and will only provide the estimate on request. The stone is set in a platinum and pink gold ring and is flanked by two hexagonal white diamonds.
