Gem Visions 2007 Predicts New Artistic Expressions of 2005/2006 Trends |
Signity Gem Visions,
a compilation of design trends and directions intended to inspire,
ignite and illuminate the latest in gem set jewellery styles predicts
that design directions for 2007 will see a continuation of the trends
we saw emerging in 2005/2006, but with new artistic impressions
evolving. Using the combined talents of the world's leading brands
Swarovski land Golay, Signity uses Gem Visions, its trend forecasting
service to present new gem products in the context of current dynamic
style I trends.
"We are entering
an era of de-seasonal cycles," says Dr. Birgit Rieder, Gem
Visions Project Director and Marketing Services Manager Genuine
and Created Gemstones for D. Swarovski & Co. "Forecasted
trends explore new takes on existing concepts. Consumers sample
design directions in search of what works for them, forgoing the
urge to follow every new trend. They're looking for the right product,
not the hype product. Individualism/personalisation is key - coupled
with exceptional concepts and unique positioning. The fragmentation
of markets and attitudes accelerates, as does interconnect!vity.
We re-appropriate what we experience in our everyday lives and virtual
lives (TV reality). Luxury remains the ultimate desire (that everyone
wishes to experience."

Our
world is becoming more complex and multilayered, supporting the
leading jewellery trend in the layering of materials, techniques,
ideas, inspirations, influences, and meanings. A fundamental aspect
of this trend is freedom of expression in creative styling. Jewellery
has also become more complex with new gem products, colours, cuts
and combinations of materials. Creative jewellery designs seem to
hide secrets and tell stories, making the pieces more meaningful
and fun to wear.
Gem
Visions research identifies four major themes as influencing design
directions for the next few seasons. These are Blantik, Geoblack,
Florindi and Gameology.

Blantik combines
two significant themes from the 2005/2006 season namely the romantic
directions of Fugitive and the antique spirit of Cult. Blantik reflects18
th century sensibility with the richness of ceremony. It expressesa
new luxury that is detailed. There's a return to romantic swirls
and cascades - textile influences like lace and ribbon. A sense
of serenity is illustrated in virtually invisible layers in tone-on-tone.
Inspired by crystal chandeliers, designs show interpretations of
the river of diamonds, with white and pastel gems in new proportions.
Light metal and complex pave work crucial in perforated patterns.
There is a Simplified Art Noveau expressed in figurative motifs,
often in flower groupings suspended in layers that add movement.
Transparent
and opaque stones are vital in vaporized colours, frosted transparencies,
whites and colour gradations from white pastel and contrasts between
matte and shiny finishes are all relevant to this trend which is
influenced by a se of serenity and well being, the search for better
living and a higher quality of life, luxury and ornamentation. This
theme is richly inspired by lingerie as well as weddings and other
important ceremonies and rituals.

Q) FLORINDI |
Gold
and platinum are the leading precious metals in the Blantik design
direction, which is about details - subtle, refined and delicate.
The name combines blanc (meaning white in French) with 'tik' the
last syllable in antique, is direction is particularly relevant
classic or ceremonial wear, elegant daywear, evening wear, hair
cessories and baby gifts.
Geoblack
combines several concepts from the futuristic spirit of Fiction
theme and the geometric elegance of Couture Cut and Codes along
with Art Deco and Bauhaus fluence with an ethnic touch of a tribal,
primitive nature influenced by Gem Graffiti trends from 2005/ 2006. The name combines Geo for geometric and black, which
is the main colour in this look.
Geoblack
is avant-garde and innovative, very individualistic making a personal
statement. The style favours minimalist design through purity of
shapes, colours and proportions with minimal graphics and relies
on architectural inspiration making it ideally suited for urbane
jet-set evening wear, cocktail wear, menswear, daywear and watches.
This
concept focuses on the colour black: black settings and stones,
highlighted by traditional fine jewellery colours like ruby, sapphire
and emerald. In between darks such as dark blues, greys, browns
and violet are also emblematic of this trend. Contrasts of shiny
effects and dark matte reflections enhance this style. |

More
masculine than feminine, even when inspired by lingerie, the designs
tend to play on transparency evoking mystery and mischief with a
decidedly edgy feel rather than softness and romance. The underlying
influence is architectural and industrial and that is reflected
in the masculine impression given by compact shapes, rounded aspects,
asymmetry and a deconstructionist spirit, using irregularities in
combination, sometimes replacing one element to create a sense of
surprise within a very organised and repetitive pattern. This sort
of styling works well with incisive cuts like squares, elongated
baguettes, marquise and triangles, as well as rounds for pave. Blackened
metals like black gold, oxidised silver and titanium are perfect
to achieve this look as are black Perspex, enamel, ribbed materials,
and leather.
Florindi borrows
heavily from 2005/2006's romantic Fugitive and ethnic Cult concepts
but with heavy vintage influences. Indian and Indonesian cultural
impressions mix with a melange of various East Asian themes from
Russia to Mongolia. The name Florindi itself derives from an amalgam
of floral and India.

This
trend embraces the casual lifestyle whether in daywear or evening
wear, jewels or hair accessories. Individualistic with a strong
do-it-yourself feel about it, its charm lies in its 'soul', a rich,
happy cocktail of ethnic influences. Floral and ethnic textile patterns
like the Indian paisley predominate, while aged looks and a vintage
patina are the distinguishing features. Jewels with large centre
stones and metal settings sculptured in motifs like a tribal frieze
capture the essence of Florindi, although the overall look is not
overtly ethnic at first. This look depends a lot on the well balanced
combination of rough natural materials with perfectly cut gemstones.
Jewellery pieces have a unique one-of-a-kind look wherein it seems
the coloured stones have been randomly scattered. Colours are mixed
capriciously. The traditional Tibetan mandala, which were created
by monks best express this concept. The key to this trend is following
a radiant spirit in which patterns seem to radiate from centre to
sides. |
Florindi
is awash with the colour of rich, luscious fruits and flowers.
Browns and other earth tones matched with vivid colours that
are slightly faded lend a vintage feel and warm yellows like
those of amber, citrine, and spessartite garnet work well
here. A combination of natural opaque stones and translucent,
well cut brilliant stones, beads, pearls and softened, tumbled
rough stones compose the perfect feel for this look. Yellow
gold, vintage gold and hammered gold work well here as do
enamels and engravings. Layering also matches this style.
The last
of the four trends for 2007 is Gameology, which derives its
name from the fusion of games and technology. The trend is
energised by Asian diversity, a casual spirit with the Olympic
Games to be held in China (borrowing from Codes), a high tech
spirit (developed from 20057 2006's Fiction concept), and
an updated ethnic touch (evolving from Cult). The trend combines
reflections of the cutting edge of advanced technology with
a sense of tradition and history. It is evocative of our global
diversit; the new age of virtual reality ar the emerging breed
of thir millennium consumers and natural finds its expression
in casual spor accessories and watches.

Circles, rings, multicoloun stripes combine in signs ar symbols
formed around coloi nuances. The Olympic Games are major influence
and therefo medallions resembling spor trophies are the main design
aroui which jewels will be worked. Stre style interpretations of
plaques wi optical effect, overlay motifs, digil inspirations are
all emblematic in trend that is thoroughly modern ai ever youthful,
symbolisii adventure and challenge. Jewellery in this sty
transforms itself into a light she with LED, reflecting and high
te luminescent materials, changii effects, anodised metals and ger
with multicolour reflections being especially appropriate. Designs
evoke a shifted geometry with new constructionist styles, modified
stripes, and fake 3 D effects that generate optical illusions. Geometric
motifs are built with a sharp contrast between black and the other
graphic colours of the range. Gold, silver, steel, titanium and
rubber lend themselves beautifully as do neon colours in combination
with black, white, red, blue and green that captures the spirit
of flags and the athletic style as evident at sporting events. Cold
and warm, masculine and feminine colours combine well with stones
like opals that display various colours within their textures. |
