Cathrine Clarke reflections of nature

Jewellery Design Catrine Clarke was born in Santos, Sao Paulo Brazil. She spent time in England before returning to Brazil, and settling in the world famous city of Rio de Janiro. Her studio, Kate's Jewelry is situated in the bustling Ipanema district of Rio.

Catrine grauated in humanities.this and her interest in painting led her on to involement in conceptual jewelry. Her introduction into the industry was through bench jewellery. She then went modelling. Her work gemstone also encouraged Catrine to study gemology. Today, she devotes time to the theories of art.

Her source of inspiration for help pieces is the splendour of the Brazillain soil. As in nature ,with Catrine's jeweled creations, nothing ever repeats itself. All of her organic pieces have a very unique look.

a) Crystals with amethyst emerage from the matrix agate.
b) Catherine's wining piece from Europe Star's 2002 Achievements in Inventiveness - - bracelet in rough diamond, watermelon slice & peridot.
c) Crystal quartz band.

Instead of cutting gemstones to suit a theme ,Catrine take time to glorify the gem's innate characteristics. She creates textured jewels that suggest that not only natural resources come from nature, but also the pieces's artwork.

The first of many prizes came Catrine's way in 1997 when De Beers' Designer Forum recognized her Ballerinacollection.A further award was given by the Brazilain Institue of Gems and Preious Metals (IBGM) for a pair of green tourmaline Bamboo earring.Catrine's pendant on a necklace with a collectors' rough aqumarine received another prize from IBGM in 1998.This jewel was exhibited at the Brazilain pavilion of the 1998 Expo in Portugal and in Hong Kong at the 1999 jewellery show.

Cathrine has also received further international recognition. The Japanese Government's 2001 Pearl Design Contest recognized her diamond and pearl ring. AngloGold's 2002/2003 Designer Forum chose her Tropical Bamboos, inspired by native Indian traditions, for its Brazillian designers' collection.
In 2001, Cathrine was invited by the Brazillian designs worldwide. Cathrine's creations have also been exhibited at many international shows and events including, Tucson; Las Vegas and Tokyo.
